CLT is made from layers of solid timber planks face-glued together in alternating directions to make large stable solid wood construction panels. Both long-lived buildings such as the nine-storey Landing Building 1905 in Vancouver and contemporary structures like UBCs Centre for Interactive Research in Sustainability use diaphragms of dimension lumber-on-edge for their floor assemblies. Glue-laminated timber GLT and nail-laminated timber NLT floor and wall assemblies have been used for more than a century.

Cross Laminated Timber CrossLam CLT is a multi-layer mass timber product spanning two directions with precision accuracy resulting in a secure airtight building solution for any floor wall roof or core. CLT panels consist of layered lumber boards usually three five or seven stacked crosswise at 90-degree angles and glued into place. CLT panels can be used in multiple-span configurations.
