Carbon Monoxide Floor Or Ceiling. Keep the detector out of the way of pets and children. That is not completely correct however.
The density thus the weight of carbon monoxide is only completely slightly lighter than air. Do not place the detector right next. Therefore it concentrates low to the floor.
That means it does not settle to the floor like some gases do.
Open flames usually mean heating devices - which in turn mean the CO is being produced with hot air as the exhaust of the flame - hot air rises. Carbon monoxide is heavier than air so CO detectors should not be placed on the ceiling or high on the wall. CO is slightly lighter than air. The Code says Carbon monoxide alarms shall be installed in each bedroom or within 15 feet outside each bedroom door.
